Linked to Greek mythology, Sirens first appear in Homero’s Odyssey without any physical description being presented and their appearance being left to the reader’s imagination. Sirens began to be represented in art in the 12th century BC, like birds with human heads. In the work Argonautica (3rd century BC), Apollonius of Rhodes described sirens as part woman and part fish. ♀️
This piece is inspired by the pattern of mermaid tails that could have been feathers. Although it resembles the texture of scales, it can also resemble that of a basket since, as we can see from History, our references are always fluid.
The pattern begins by being worked flat and then becomes circular without the need for any sewing. It even includes size adjustment tools.
